Need to automate manual work

Father gets 2 more workers. We need to automate mechanical work if we want to reduce our worker. We need to go high if we want to reduce our space use.

Adding 2 relays now

Just got it done for 2 relay for a serial port on 4 and 7 port. Hope to run an alert for order and another for work time.

The man uses lot of experience to do it within 2 hours. If I done, I will easily take 3 days. It costs $50. I am grateful and wish him a happy Chinese new year.

I meet up ah meng, tell him about the goal. Show him the wireless range. He is going to do it after the new year.

My dealing with Yuwei, tell me her potential of sticking with her boyfriend. Typical of young girl. It also show her hidden motive of telling after receiving the bonus. Her guilt of paid holiday. It seems she did her work well to chase payment. Her good memory. And it shows how dependable it is for Sally. Someone to depend on doing the job.

Depending on the date start of the project, a new price. It is a famous issue for sap erp system. My invoice will be difficult.

Working on it now!

Photos of my computer DIY USB relay

The relay is used in the ordering system similar to mac Donald in Singapore. Once customer order is entered into the system via browser form, the alarm and flash goes off for 7 seconds. The LCD will update the latest order for packing and delivery. Once the order is delivery, notified by enter the vehicle number, the order disappear from the screen.

The purpose is to create a direction for team member to work together without much supervision.

Test working on my p23g vaio

Done with my laptop. Use php and Ajax to get the relay working remotely. The php system run the relay program.

Finally done my USB relay

Today manage to get it to work, flashing for 7 seconds.

At first the software fails, after build a new project, it starts to work again.

I am grateful for the boss to help me in the connector, soldering,

2 volt it also runs.

The relay is toshiba brand for 5 volt dc to 240 ac.

Weeks of thinking, trying, I finally get it to work!

Patenice is worth the wait.

Now is to get the software to run the alert the moment it has new orderid or returnid.

The testing show a negative volt when low. It is only 3 volt when high. Very strange as my measurement is 7.5 volt at office. Maybe I should buy a soundtech digital next time I come sim lim tower.

I am very grateful of the boss, helping me and charging at such a low cost.

I observe he solder, he
1. Solder on the component
2. Add flux on the component a lot.

When solder pin at serial port,
1. Leave flux on table
2. Solder the flux with a wire
3. Move the wire to the serial port
4. Solder the wire with the pin

When pc start up, it will have a 4 counts flashing.

I go there 4 times.
First time to find relay and ask price.
Second time with my num lock idea, but can only get 2 volt.
Third time, to buy transistor to produce 5 volt
Four time, it works!

Ah Meng is working on the cover opening for the dc and ac cables. He is interested in the stand too.

Mac donald target

Today, while at the ntu mac, I chat up the cashier on the red border at the packing LCD. She says is over 40 seconds, it will turn red. So they have to ask for the next order.

If too slow, the manager will ask. Look like they have a target to hit, if below the target, it will have a red marking.

Look like it is good to set target for your people so they know where the company is going.

Actual serial port voltage

The voltage for USB serial port is 7.5 for my laptop on the DTS pin when high. When low, it is -2 volt using the USB serial adapter.

The voltage for my pc is -9 voltage for low on the built in serial port.

Tomorrow I will ask the shop owner if he has a relay for 7.5 voltage. If not, I will use my transistor switch to provide 5 volt to the relay.

I will bring everything there tomorrow.

The software is no problem for me using visual c# with little modification. I will post my little code when it is done. I just make the serial port write for 7 seconds with the DTS high.

Using USB serial adapter

I am trying out USB serial adapter to drive the relay. I measure that the voltage for the DTR is only 2 volt, which is not enough to drive the relay. The minimum is 3 volt. The usual is 5 volt relay.

Luckily I got my transistor switch ready. I am going to try 2 volt transistor switch to turn on the 5 voltage led power by a USB port.

I have accidentally install visual studio 2008 c#. It is easily to program in c# than c++. I am going to try my serialport little program today.

If everything turns out well, I will go to sim lim tower on wednesday to try out the ac 230 volt lamp.

I wonder how the web able to get 5 voltage from the USB serial adapter. Maybe ge is using a pc than a laptop. It is still impossible. Maybe a 2 voltage can work on certain solid state relay.

Building a operation system at store

The goal for a operation system is

1. to automatic inform store people the new order for delivery or return.
2. since everyone is alert, they are moved to pack the new order without any command.
3. my learning on electronic control of lighting and alarm fixture.

I have been working on it for about 2 weeks. Since the end of last year 2009, i have bought a 19 inches LCD to be install at the store. Another 14 inches old LCD will be installed outside the office. I have do the software in about 3 days and keep improving on it till now.

The control of the electrical lighting is the difficult part for me. I have learn to solder and bought a set of electronic parts such as transistor, resistor, breadboard and prefboard. I have also taught myself how to read a multimeter by asking my brother in law and read from the internet.

The first method to control using the keyboard numlock does not work for me. The voltage difference between the led legs are 2 volts. I could not build a transistor switch because of the voltage not to the ground of 2 volts. After reading some books from the GE library, i still could not get a solution. Then on a bus journey to my Sunday accounting class today, i thought that I am at my end, maybe I should change my problem definition.

I search internet on my iphone and read about using serial port from usb and someone has already done it with solid state relay with a usb serial port adapter. I think it will be my new path and working with software to control the serial port will be easier for me. Will be working on it next week!
